At Lucha Goth-Haus 2 at Don Quixote on July 18th, lucha libre and goth culture collided in a room that was already rendered in black, white, and gray before a single frame was shot — fishnets and leather, corpse paint and spotlight-cut smoke, corner pads reading “LUCHA GOTH-HAUS” like a promise. Shooting alongside my classmate Jill Stanley, who carries her own quiet tribute to a friend who wrestled years ago, I watched the ring deliver everything a fight should: bodies mid-collision, a slam through splintering wood and glitter, a wrestlersuplexed through the ropes with hair whipping skyward — while the crowd, pressed against the rail in skeleton paint and fishnets, became just as much the story as anyone in the ring. Between bouts, a goth band slowed the night to a ritual hush, chains and gloved arms raised into the fog, proof that this show was never a wrestling event with a goth theme bolted on, but one thing, whole, that only made sense in black and white.
